Information for Defendants

Money Claim Online gives you the opportunity to defend a money claim made against you online.

The forms you will have received through the post contain details of the claim that has been made against you. These forms constitute your response pack. The response pack will tell you if you can use this service.

Remember! Never ignore a claim form.

What happens if I ignore a claim?

If you ignore this claim the claimant can apply for judgment to be entered against you. If this claim results in Judgment being entered against you details will be entered in a public register, the Register of County Court Judgments. They will then be passed to credit reference agencies, which will supply them to finance companies and others seeking information on your financial standing. This will make it difficult for you to get credit. A list of credit reference agencies is available from Registry Trust Limited 173/175 Cleveland Street, London W1T 6QR.

If you fail to make payment under the terms of a Judgment order entered against you the claimant may apply to the court for a warrant of execution or other methods of enforcement to secure payment.

You are strongly advised to read all the guidance notes on Form N1 sent to you
